The Washington State Supreme Court has nine justices and five of these positions are up for election this year. Hear directly from the candidates in their own words in these video interviews which are paired with a short biography to help you prepare to vote.
| | | What’s in Washington’s Public Banking Future?
A continuing concern of the LWV is the influence of money on our elections. One possible way to begin to address some of the concerns is through improving public financing including Public Banking. The LWVWA stated a position on Public Banking in the 2025-2027 Program in Action:
"In 2020, based on the privatization position, the LWVWA decided to support the formation of a public bank, which would be owned by the state and/or local and tribal governments. A public bank would enable amplification of public funds through fractional reserve lending and would return the profits of banking with the public’s money to the public. Because of a lower cost structure, it could offer financing for public projects at lower rates than are available from private sector banks. These measures would both increase the financial capacity of our governments and enable more efficient use of public funds. This issue progressed during the 2021-22 legislative session and is expected to be pursued further..."

What Happened at LWVUS Convention?
The LWVUS Convention was held in Columbus, Ohio June 25 -28. League members from across the country gathered to learn, deliberate, and chart the organization’s direction for the coming biennium. The experience reinforced both the urgency of our mission and the strength of our nationwide network. The LWV Day of Action on August 8, 2026 will commemorate the signing of the Voting Rights Act on August 6, 1965. LWVSKC units are encouraged to plan an action on August 8th. For example, the West Seattle Unit has reserved a room at the High Point Branch Library and volunteer League Election Advocates will invite the public to learn what was presented at the King County Elections training (which the Virtual Unit is also sharing with all who are interested on 7/21, see above). The Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI) is hosting an exhibit "Documents That Forged a Nation" in which the following documents will be available to view in August: an Original Engraving of the Declaration of Independence (1823), the Secret Printing of the Constitution in Draft Form (1787), the Treaty of Paris, and the Bill of Rights.
