Education
The LWVSKC Education Committee primarily follows issues related to K-12 education. However, early childhood education opportunities and daycare issues deeply impact the well-being of the K-12 students and cannot be ignored, along with opportunities for all youth to engage in activities that contribute to their well-being. Due to the number of school districts within King County and many issues facing public education and support for families and students, those with ideas and who are willing to work on presentations and programs will be supported by the committee.
The public is invited to attend and participate in our meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at 4:00 PM.
During the past year we hosted the following conversations.
- The Campaign for Seattle's Education and Early Learning Levy presented and answered questions at our October 2025 meeting.
- Bellevue Schools Superintendent Kelly Aramaki led a discussion on proposals to reform Washington state's education funding in March 10. He has been active with a state-wide group. Let's learn from each other.
- LWVWA Education Advocacy Chair Karen Tvedt was our guest in April 2026 on the 2025-26 legislative session. What happened? What did we learn?

To observe at King County Elections, you need to participate in an observer orientation (if you have not already in the past two years). Below are the upcoming dates/times of the next observer orientation sessions. Please RSVP to Barb at president@lwvskc.org with the date/time of the session you wish to attend - you must do this ahead of attending. All observer orientations are held at King County Elections 919 SW Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057. (There is a limit of ten LWVSKC members per session.)
- Tuesday, July 14 from 11 am to 1 pm
- Wednesday, July 15 from 4 pm to 6 pm
- Friday, July 17 from 11 am to 1 pm
| Fraud in King County Elections?
With all the chatter around suspected fraud in elections, the LWVSKC reached out to King County Elections to understand the instances of fraud - or rather suspected fraud in King County. Here's what we learned - and what you can confidently share with your community. . .
Following every election, King County Elections refers cases of suspected fraud to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for investigation. A referral to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office does not mean someone committeed fraud. It means that King County Elections believes there is enough inconsistency to warrant investigation. It is up to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office to decide what rises to the level of prosecution.

After the 2024 Presidential Election, King County Elections referred a total of 40 cases out of 1.1 million ballots returned. (25 of the 40 were situations where a registered voter signed their own name on someone else’s ballot envelope.) Those 40 cases represent three-thousandths of one percent of all ballots returned.

These numbers are in line with what King County Elections saw and referred to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office in the 2020 Presidential Election. A total of 36 referrals were made to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and over 1.2 million ballots were returned.

King County Elections has designed a special Election Advocate training for LWVSKC members to be held on Saturday, July 11 from 10 - noon at King County Elections in Renton. Learn all you need to instill confidence in your King County community regarding upcoming elections. Sign up by June 15 for the training by emailing president@lwvskc.org with your desire to participate. | Unite and Rise
Unite and Rise 8.5 aims to build a movement of 8.5 million individuals to fight back against the anti-democratic actions of the current administration. The number 8.5 million is the estimated number of voters it would take to bring about change through nonviolent protest.
